Top Five Wednesdays started on Goodreads back in 2013. At the beginning of every month Sam from ThoughtsOnTomes posts a topic for each Wednesday and bloggers, vloggers and overall book fans are encouraged to respond with their top five.
This week is top five books featuring paranormal creatures. Technically we’re supposed to pick just one type of paranormal creature, but I had a hard time with that so this list includes all. Let me know your top five in the comments!
- The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater
I surprisingly haven’t read too many ghost books. Are ghosts just not a thing in young adult or am I just unaware of some large sub-genre of young adult paranormal? But I love this group and all the weird stuff that happens to them and in Henrietta.
- ACOTAR by Sarah J. Maas
Maybe this is typical, but Sarah J. Maas and this series was my first like introduction into fae and what fae are—and they’ve probably become my favorite paranormal/fantasy creature. First, I love the whole mate concept and accepting that bond and how it all rests on the female. But also how protective and dominant the males are—in these stories only bowing to their spitfire women.
- Kissed by a Dark Prince by Felicity Heaton
So like I said, ACOTAR and TOG lead me into having a thing for fae males. This series is like slightly smut trash but like I can’t help myself. Each book in this series pairs a different type of paranormal male with their fiery and unwilling mate who they must woo. Swoon.
4. Hex Hall by Rachel Hawkins
This series has almost every type of creature imaginable. Our main character is a witch who is sent by her estranged father to a boarding school for troubled paranormals.
5. Lux series by Jennifer L. Armentrout
I never thought I’d be into an alien book but this series was so much fun. This was a series I had heard a lot about in the book community and just had to pick up eventually. It is definitely a guilty pleasure read but again those dark dominating book boys seem to be my weakness.
