Top Five Wednesdays started on Goodreads back in 2013. At the beginning of every month Sam from ThoughtsOnTomes posts a topic for each Wednesday and bloggers, vloggers and overall book fans are encouraged to respond with their top five.
This week is five favorite angsty romances. I found this to be so much fun. But also hard because there are a ton of angsty romances out there that I have read and love. Let me know what your top five are in the comments!
1. Warner and Juliette from the Shatter Me trilogy
I read this series for the first time this year and it might end up going on my favorites list. Warner is just. I can’t even. I love him. There is so much angst in this series—especially when it comes to the last book, Ignite Me. I literally just reread just that book the other day because I needed to experience that relationship and that angst another time.
2. Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice
I feel like these two are the original angsty couple. He basically calls her ugly. Then professes his feelings. She rejects him. Both of them realize they were being stupid. There is just so much anger and tension between these two for most of the book—making it even more satisfying when they finally get together.
4. Katniss and Peeta from The Hunger Games
This is such an obvious pick for anyone who has read the series. These two. Team Peeta. Forever. I mean they were forced into these killing games. Katniss pretends to love him. He really loves her. Then there is the whole love triangle. And Peeta losing his mind. So much crap and emotions.
4. Aerity and Paxton from The Great Hunt
This relationship was just full of angst from the beginning. They really fight liking each other. Paxton has a dangerous secret. Aerity must marry whoever kills the beast—even if it isn’t him. There is so much against these two. The last book of the duology just came out. I haven’t read it yet, but I can anticipate that it has just as much angst.
5. Em and Casmir from Ruined
I wanted to put this book and relationship on my list because I feel like a lot of people maybe haven’t heard of it. I loved this book—you can read my review here. I think it is under-hyped. His kingdom is the reason her parents are dead and land ravaged. She pretends to be his bride with the goal of killing him. But he is different than she anticipated. I shipped these two so hard when I was reading this book.
