So every week Rae from the Bookmark Chronicles poses a bookish question. If you want to check out the challenge click the link. I plan on posting a response every Thursday—okay not every, I know I missed last week.
THIS WEEK IS:Would you ever join a book club? Why or why not?
The idea of a book club interests me. I’d love to get together with people who are passionate about books and have a thoughtful discussion. It’d be like a more fun version of my literature classes—with socializing, snacks, and wine.
That being said, I don’t want to get stuck reading a book I don’t like. Like what if my bookclub picked a book and I just hated it? I wouldn’t want to have to finish. I’d feel like I was reading for one of my literature classes.
Also, I like picking my own books because I can get in moods or slumps. Like if I read a lot of fantasy in a row, I’ll get in a genre slump and switch it up to contemporary for a bit. Book clubs also put you on a schedule, which I don’t like. Meeting once a month seems too long, because I read a lot of books in a month. By the time book club comes around I might not remember anything. Then, a week feels too short. With school and work sometimes I don’t have enough time to finish a book a week.
I feel like I have the best alternative to a book club—this blog. I still get to discuss and meet with people who are passionate about books, and I learn so much from them.
Let me know your answer to this weeks this or that in the comments!
