I recently finished reading Mary E. Pearson’s The Remnant Chronicles series and fell in love. If you haven’t picked it up do so, if you read the first book and thought it was “eh” please read the next two—they get so much better. In honor of the end here’s my favorite quotes from the series.

“It can take years to mold a dream. It takes only a fraction of a second for it to be shattered.” —The Kiss of Deception

“Maybe there was no one way to define it. Maybe there were as many shades of love as the blues of the sky.” —The Kiss of Deception

“‘I see only reminders that nothing lasts forever, not even greatness.’ ‘Some things last.’
I faced him. ‘Really? And just what would that be?’ ‘The things that matter.'” —The Kiss of Deception

“But remember, child, we may all have our own story and destiny, and sometimes our seemingly bad fortune, but we’re all part of a greater story too. One that transcends the soil, the wind, time… even our own tears. Greater stories will have their way.” —The Kiss of Deception

“When you think you’re at the end of your rope, give it three more days. And then another three. Sometimes you’ll find the rope is longer than you thought.” —The Heart of Betrayal

“I wished that love could be simple, that it was always given and returned in the same measure, equally and at the same time, that all the planets aligned in a perfect way to dispel all doubts, that it was easy to understand and never painful.” —The Heart of Betrayal

“I am not a chip in a card game to be mindlessly tossed into the center of the pot, nor one to be kept in the tight fist of a greedy opponent. I am a player seated at the table alongside everyone else, and from this day forward, I will play my own hand as I see fit.” —The Heart of Betrayal

“We had a terrible start, doesn’t mean we can’t have a better ending.” —The Heart of Betrayal

“Truth is as free as the air and we all have the right to breathe as deeply of it as we wish. It cannot be held back in the palm of any one man.” —The Beauty of Darkness

“Love didn’t end all at once, no matter how much you needed it to or how inconvenient it was. You couldn’t command love to stop any more than a marriage document could order it to appear. Maybe love had to bleed away a drop at a time until your heart was numb and cold and mostly dead.” —The Beauty of Darkness

“I hated things being for the best. They never really were. It was a phrase that sugarcoated the leftover crumbs of our options.” —The Beauty of Darkness

“Darkness was a beautiful thing. The kiss of a shadow. A caress as soft as moonlight.” —The Beauty of Darkness
