Mid-Year Book Freakout Tag

I was tagged to do this by the amazing Lauren @ Wonderless Reviews.  Make sure to check out her post and blog because she’s great.

This tag was created by Chami @ ReadLikeWildFire and Ely @ Ely Jayne. It’s where we look back at (and freak out over) the books we’ve read during the past six months.

Best Book You’ve Read So Far In 2016

Every book lover knows how hard this question is. I’m going to go with Rupi Kaur’s milk and honey—which you can read my review for here. This collection of poetry—a genre I’m not typically into—is impactful and life changing. I can’t stress how amazing it is. Google the poems, check out her Instagram, pick up a copy, just read it.

map of fatesBest Sequel You’ve Read So Far In 2016

I’m taking this to mean the second book in a series. My pick for this is Maggie Hall’s Map of Fates—which you can read my review for here. The first book in this series was great and completely hooked me, but even so I enjoyed Map of Fates just a little bit more. It’s a five star read. Plus look at the cover, gorgeous.

New Release You Haven’t Read Yet, But Want To

I really want to read A Court of Mist and Fury. I haven’t yet because a) it’s a new release and b) because I haven’t read the first book in the series. There’s just so much hype about Sarah J. Maas and these books that I need to get on them.

Most Anticipated Release for the Second Half of the Year

My most anticipated read by far is Sabaa Tahir’s A Torch Against the Night. I hadn’t heard of An Ember in the Ashes before I received it as a Christmas gift from my boyfriend, but as soon as I started it I became obsessed and couldn’t put it down. It was originally advertised as a standalone and that killed me considering the ending, and I’m so glad that there’s a sequel.

Biggest Disappointment

I was super disappointed by Samantha Shannon’s The Bone Season—which you can read my review for here. I hadn’t heard a lot about it before I ordered it on Book Outlet, but once I started snooping around the internet I learned it was supposed to be a big deal and the first book in a seven book series. I just found that it didn’t really fit with the blurb I read when I bought it and the pace was off.

curse of the sphinxBiggest Surprise

When Raye Wagner’s team reached out to me about reading and reviewing Curse of the Sphinx, I wasn’t expecting much. I never heard of it, and besides Percy Jackson I hadn’t read many other Greek mythology stories. I was afraid it wouldn’t measure up. It ended up being a fantastic and gripping read, which you can read my review for here. The second book just as good.

Favorite New Author (Debut or New To You)

There’s a lot of authors that I read for the first time this year and loved, just to name a few: Morgan Matson, Colleen Hoover, Victoria Aveyard, Rachel R. Smith, Huntley Fitzpatrick, and Rupi Kaur.

Newest Fictional Crush

This is so hard to narrow down. I’d have to say from books I’ve read recently my top crushes are Captain Throne from The Lunar Chronicles, Clark from The Unexpected Everything, and Levi from Fangirl. I initially liked Thorne because of his sense of humor, but his loyalty throughout the series really pushed him over the top for me. Clark was just so geeky and cute it was hard not to love him, the same goes for Levi.

Newest Favourite Character

Going back to Fangirl, I think my newest favorite character is Cath. She’s a writer. She’s a fangirl. She has intense social anxiety. Everything about her was so relatable.

Book That Made You Cry

There have been a couple books that made me cry this year, but I think All The Bright Places by Jennifer Niven left the most tears in my eyes. The ending—even though it seemed almost inevitable from the beginning—tore me apart.

anna and the french kissBook That Made You Happy

Again, there are a lot of books that made me happy but I think Anna and the French Kiss left me feeling most giddy—that whole series really. I’ve already re-read it.

Favorite Book to Film Adaptation

I’m going with Me Before You—partially because I think it’s the only adaptation I’ve seen this year. It was pretty good though, completely heart wrenching but good.

Favorite Post You Have Done This Year

I think for this you should check out my post Top 5 Wednesday: Favorite Posts. It has a good variety of posts I’ve done this year. Narrowing it down to one is just too hard.

Most Beautiful Book You’ve Bought This Year

This is hard, I think a lot of the books I’ve bought are beautiful. Recently though, I just acquired the Puffin in Bloom edition of Anne of Green Gables. It’s gorgeous.

What Book Do You Need to Read by the End of the Year

I need to read Throne of Glass by the end of the year, desperately. This series is so well loved and I feel so late to the party.

Don’t feel like you have to do this if I tag you, and I’m sorry if you’ve already done this and I re-tagged you. I’m also opening this to ANYONE who’s read it and wants to do it.

  1. I’m so, so glad I found milk and honey through your blog because it felt life changing. It was definitely one of my favourite reads of the year. Curse of the Sphinx is on my TBR so I’m glad you enjoyed it! I also really need to read All the Bright Places and Fangirl! I’m glad I’m not the only one who hasn’t read Throne of Glass, haha. I’m super intimated by all the hype but I’m hoping to read it soon.

    1. Haha I know the series is so intimidating. I bought the last book because it was on sale so and its just sitting there in my TBR pile. Need the other four.
